Mathematical Skills Requirements

To complete this qualification successfully, candidates are expected to develop and demonstrate the following mathematical competencies. These core skills will be integrated and assessed within the context of biological investigations and examinations.

E   Handle trigonometric functions (sine and inverse sine) where angles are measured in degrees
2 Data Analysis and Processing
A   Apply a suitable level of precision by rounding to appropriate significant figures
B   Calculate the mean average value from set observations and explain its significance
C   Build and read bar graphs representing categorical information
D   Create and analyze frequency distribution tables, graphs, and histograms
E   Grasp how systematic sampling methods are applied to gather reliable experimental evidence

F   Determine the physical significance of area between a curve and the xx-axis, and measure it by counting squares as appropriate
5 Geometric Calculations
A   Use angular measures in degrees
B   Visualise and represent 2D and 3D objects, including 2D representations of 3D objects
C   Compute the surface areas of rectangles/triangles and the volumetric capacity of standard cubes
